HIIT Elliptical Workout for Fat Loss

As we’ve mentioned in a previous post, Benefits and Advantages of Using Elliptical Machines for Exercise, elliptical machines are great for weight loss as you burn tons of calories working the whole body. Now not only are they great for weight loss, but they can be great for fat loss specifically as well.

Losing fat should be your main focus in any health regimen, visceral fat specifically. Visceral fat lies around the organs and can be very dangerous if you accumulate too much. So how we can we cut down our risk and remove the fat?! Incorporating HIIT workouts into your fitness plan is going to do just that.

How is HIIT going to do this you ask? Well according to HIIT Cardio on the Elliptical to Burn Fat it is all do to the Excess Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). When you exercise at a lower intensity your body is using fat as its main fuel source. However when you exercise at high intensity your body is using glycogen (a form of carbohydrate that is stored in your liver and muscles) at incredible amounts.

When working out at such high intensity your glycogen stores run low or eventually run completely out. After your workout your body has to replenish these glycogen stores as quickly as possible and go into working overtime even after your workout is complete.

So how is this done? Your body replenishes the glycogen stores by converting fat to glycogen. So in the long run when you do high intensity workouts you are burning fat longer than you would with a low to moderate intensity workout.

Giving yourself that little rest between high intensity parts with intervals helps you to go longer without “hitting the wall” and avoiding fatigue.
